What I Believe

The best way to explain what I believe, my core beliefs, is to quote the Nicene Creed with a twist, so here it goes….

I am unapologetically a Christian.

I am not a typical holy roller, right wing, judgmental, my-way-is -the-only-way Christian.

I believe and strive for justice and peace among all people in my life and respect the dignity of every human being.

I cherish God’s creation and treat animals with love and care. Even the ones I eat. I am respectful of nature and do not abuse its resources.

I believe that there are many many ways to know God.

I believe that there are many sacred and holy divine texts, some we have yet to discover. I am not a Bible thumper but a seeker of knowledge.

I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.  What name you choose to call the one true God  is up to you.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father. God from God, Light from Light, (I love that description.) true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. Including me.

For me and for my salvation, for me…unimportant unworthy me, he came down from heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.

For my sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. For my ugly, evil, lowly, dirty, disgusting sin. He was beaten, tortured, hung on a cross for me..on my knees in shame at this thought, head bowed. He did this for me.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, including me and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. Not Catholic big C, but the one true church that belongs to God…many people, many denominations, many ways to praise, love and serve God. I am an Episcopalian, but sometimes I have been known to show up at any church in any town just to shake up the spirit a bit.

I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. After you seek God, give your life to Him, accept His mercy, you have to get wet, sprinkled, poured on or dunked, either way. An outward sign of an inside commitment.

I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

I took a vow of prayer, service and evangelism when I became a Daughter of the King.

God is my… well,  my everything. I just hope that my meager attempt to serve Him, love Him and praise, and honor Him will reflect His love to the world.
